Aims

A community campaign for the continuation of the award winning National Glass Centre skills, services, and building.

What do we want from this campaign?

We want to find a way to save the building as it is. We need to formulate a plan of action for both organisations to be saved, and for the building to be improved. This could be an opportunity to radically address the problems, including the extreme energy consumption, to make both of our national organisations leaders in the cultural sector.

We seek to change the minds of the current owner Sunderland University; with an intention of saving the skill of glass blowing in St Peter’s ward.

How can you help?

You can join our mailing list, and give us a testimonial that we can use to demonstrate public love for the NGC and NGCA. You can do this via the following link:

Recent repair work and the celebration of 30 years of Glass and Ceramics in Sunderland University, 2022

My concern is that exhibiting glass art is not ensuring the continuation of glass blowing and making. We already display glass art in both the Sunderland Museum, and occasionally in the Washington Arts Centre. What happens to the skills?
